National: There is a 400-year-old slum near Barapula Bridge in Delhi's Jangpura area, where people of about 200 families who have been living in the slum for 40-50 years are very worried these days, because the threat of becoming homeless is hanging over them.

The PWD has issued a notice directing the removal of these slums, which is being opposed by the slum dwellers as well as the local people. A protest was organised near the area by the Delhi BJP slum cell on Tuesday.

PWD gave five days time to vacate the slum

In fact, the Public Works Department (PWD) of the Delhi government has issued a notice directing the slum dwellers living here to vacate the slum within five days, after which these slums will be removed from here.

The notice is expiring tomorrow. People here are very scared and are protesting against this decision of PWD. In view of the possible action by PWD tomorrow, this morning BJP's slum cell protested against this notice of PWD. During this, the protesters targeted the Delhi government fiercely over this move of PWD and also accused the government of making people homeless from their homes.

Warning of siege of PWD minister's residence

It is worth noting that due to these slums located near Barapula drain, a serious problem of waterlogging arises during monsoon. PWD says that it is necessary to remove these slums for the revival of the bridge. Which is being opposed by the BJP's slum cell. Through today's protest, they warned that if their demands are not met, they will surround the residence of the PWD minister.

Now it will be interesting to see whether the PWD takes back its decision after this issue has taken a political turn or whether it sticks to the notice issued and takes action to remove these slums tomorrow and if the PWD does so, to what level will the people here and the BJP's slum cell take their protest.
