Adani Group has taken a major step amid civil and criminal cases filed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Eastern District of New York. The group has hired top US law firms Kirkland & Ellis and Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP to handle its case. According to reports, both are among the world's largest law firms. On November 21, US authorities accused Gautam Adani and some others of paying more than $250 million in bribes to Indian government officials to help Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) secure solar energy contracts from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
The case has been assigned to a single judge in the US court
AGEL clarified in November that group chief Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani and senior executive Vineet S. Jain have not been charged with violating the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and bribery. The civil and criminal case being run by the SEC and the Eastern District of New York against Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani and other officials has been assigned to a single judge in the US court.
