National News : PM Modi addressed the nation for 98 minutes from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort on the occasion of Independence Day on Thursday. This has been PM Modi's longest speech from the Red Fort so far. PM Modi's address on Independence Day has been longer than the addresses of other Prime Ministers. Before today, his longest address at the Independence Day celebrations was 96 minutes in 2016, while his shortest address was about 56 minutes in 2017.

The tricolor was hoisted for the 11th time at the Red Fort

Let us inform you that today on the occasion of 78th Independence Day, Prime Minister Modi has hoisted the tricolor at the Red Fort for the 11th consecutive time. In the first address of his third term, he left former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh behind. Manmohan Singh had hoisted the national flag 10 times from the ramparts of the Red Fort during the years 2004 to 2014. In this case, PM Modi has reached the third position after former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.

Nehru gave speech 17 times and Indira Gandhi 16 times

Pandit Nehru has received this honor 17 times and Indira Gandhi 16 times. After taking over the reins of the country for the first time, Modi addressed the country for 65 minutes from the ramparts of the Red Fort in 2014. At the same time, his address in the year 2015 was about 88 minutes. Then in the year 2018, Modi spoke to the people of the country from the Red Fort for 83 minutes. After this, in the year 2019, he spoke for about 92 minutes, which was his second longest address till date. At the same time, PM Modi's Independence Day address in 2020 was 90 minutes. His address in the year 2021 was 88 minutes and in the year 2022 it was 74 minutes. Also, last year i.e. in 2023, Modi's speech was 90 minutes.

It is worth noting that before PM Modi, former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru gave the longest speech of 72 minutes in 1947 and Inder Kumar Gujral gave the longest speech of 71 minutes in 1997. Pandit Nehru and Indira Gandhi gave the shortest speech of 14 minutes each in 1954 and 1966. Former PM Manmohan Singh and Atal Bihari Vajpayee also gave the shortest speeches on Independence Day from the Red Fort. Manmohan Singh gave a speech of only 32 minutes in 2012 and 35 minutes in 2013. Vajpayee gave speeches of 25 and 30 minutes in 2002 and 2003.
