Some cases of HMPV virus spread in China have started coming in India as well. In fact, the recent case is from Tamil Nadu. In fact, two cases of HMPV virus infection have been confirmed in Chennai and Salem in Tamil Nadu. The Additional Chief Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department of Tamil Nadu confirmed these cases on Monday. The Chief Secretary said that the condition of both the infected is stable at present. In a press release issued by the DIPR of the Tamil Nadu government, it was said, HMPV is not a new virus. It is an already prevalent virus which was identified in the year 2001. HMPV infection is self-limited and this infection is cured with adequate rest and drinking good amount of water and proper care.
2 cases of HMPV reported in Tamil Nadu
The press release said that the treatment of HMPV is symptomatic and supportive. Currently, 2 cases of HMPV have been reported. One in Chennai and one in Salem have been confirmed. Both are currently stable and are being monitored. According to the release, there has been no significant increase in common respiratory viral pathogens in Tamil Nadu. On January 6, 2025, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India held a video conference with all state health officials under the chairmanship of the Union Health Secretary. Senior health officials of Tamil Nadu also participated in this meeting which was led by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department.
A total of 5 cases of HMPV were reported
Let us tell you that the Government of India has clarified that the HMPV virus remains stable and is not a matter of concern. Prevention of HMPV is the same as any other respiratory infection, such as covering the mouth and nose while sneezing, coughing, washing hands, wearing a mask in crowded places and informing health facilities when needed. The release said that the Tamil Nadu government is committed and influenza-like diseases are being constantly monitored. Let us tell you that earlier a total of 3 cases of HMPV have been reported in India. Two of these cases have been found in Bengaluru, Karnataka, while another case has been registered in Gujarat. Let us tell you that the spread of this virus is being monitored by all the state governments and the Government of India.
