Many states of North India are in the grip of cold. After two days of rain, cold wave is now blowing. Light fog is also being seen in the morning and evening. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of severe cold wave and dense fog conditions in many parts of North-West and Central India in the coming days.
Now cold wave attack
The Meteorological Department has predicted a severe cold wave in some areas of Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan on 30 December (Monday), 31 December (Tuesday) and 1 January (Wednesday). During this time, a drop in temperature can also be seen in some areas of Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan. Cold wave will prevail in all these states on New Year i.e. Wednesday. There will be a considerable drop in temperature.
Dense fog will prevail in these states
For the next three days, i.e. till New Year (Wednesday), dense to very dense fog is expected in the late night and early morning hours in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and other states. Temperatures are expected to drop by 3-5 degrees Celsius in northwest, west and central India. Due to this, there may be severe cold in the next few days.
Heavy snowfall affects life in Kashmir
The heaviest snowfall of the season in Kashmir has disrupted air, rail and road traffic. People are facing many problems due to disruption of electricity and water supply. The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been closed due to heavy snowfall. Train services between Banihal and Baramulla have been suspended. Air traffic from Srinagar has come to a halt.
Snowfall and rain in Uttarakhand
Continuous snowfall in the hill districts of Uttarakhand has led to a drop in temperature. Popular places like Auli, Hemkund Sahib and Chopta are covered with snow. Major highways including Badrinath and Joshimath-Niti road have been blocked, affecting connectivity. The rain has further aggravated the problems by disrupting electricity in many villages of Karnaprayag, Tharali and Narayanbagh areas.
After record rain in Delhi now cold wave
On Sunday, Delhi was cloudy and experienced cold weather. On Monday too, Delhi-NCR will remain cloudy. Cold wave will prevail today as well. Due to this, the temperature will drop. The maximum temperature of Delhi has reached 15.8 degrees Celsius, much below normal, while due to rain, the minimum temperature reached an abnormal 12.7 degrees Celsius. Recently, 41.2 mm of rain was recorded in Delhi within 24 hours. This is the highest rainfall in a day in December since 1923.
Temperature went down in Punjab and Haryana
Punjab and Haryana also received rain on Sunday. Temperatures have gone down in cities like Amritsar, Ludhiana and Ambala. Moderate rains occurred in Rajasthan, with Jhalawar district recording 86 mm of rain. Hailstorms also occurred in some eastern areas. Dense fog reduced visibility in parts of the region. Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded a maximum temperature of 15.1 degrees Celsius, with rains throughout the day.
