Kasganj: The family of Chandan Gupta, who was killed during the Tiranga Yatra on 26 January 2018, has got justice today after almost seven years. The NIA court on Friday sentenced 28 convicts to life imprisonment. The family of Chandan Gupta has welcomed the court's decision. The family also celebrated by hoisting the tricolor at home after the convicts were awarded life imprisonment.

Reacting to the decision of Lucknow's AIA court, Chandan Gupta's parents said that we welcome the court's order. The family said that there was a delay in sentencing the culprits but truth has won. We welcome this. Chandan's father said that we are satisfied with the court's decision. The judiciary has given us justice. We also thank the court. Chandan's mother Sangeeta Gupta said that we have lost everything. We have struggled a lot. We listened to everyone. We thank the court. We have got justice after a long time. 

Chandan was murdered during the Tiranga Yatra

Let us tell you that the NIA court of Lucknow on Friday sentenced 28 convicts to life imprisonment for the murder of 22-year-old Chandan Gupta during the communal violence in Kasganj on January 26, 2018. This violence broke out during the Tiranga Yatra. The Additional District and Sessions Judge convicted the convicts under several sections of the IPC, including 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 147 (rioting) and 149 (unlawful assembly).

All the culprits were sent to jail

The convicted persons include Waseem, Naseem, Zahid alias Jagga, Babloo, Akram, Mohsin, Rahat, Salman and others. All have been sent to jail. One of the convicts, Munazir Rafi, appeared through video conferencing while an arrest warrant was issued against Salim, who was present in the court on a wheelchair. 

Additional DGC (criminal) MK Singh said the prosecution produced 18 witnesses while the defence produced 23 witnesses. A chargesheet filed by the Kasganj police in July 2018 led to the case being transferred to the NIA court where charges were framed on September 2, 2019.
