On Friday, dense fog engulfed Delhi and its surrounding areas. Fog has spread due to the severe cold wave continuing in North India. Flights and trains are getting delayed due to the dense fog. Along with this, road traffic is also moving at a very slow pace. Visibility has become zero at many places including Delhi's Palam Airport. Meanwhile, Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) has gone into the 'severe' category. It was recorded at 409.

Flights affected at Delhi airport

Visibility dropped to zero at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, severely impacting flight operations. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for the city, warning of adverse weather conditions. The IMD warned that such conditions could affect airports, highways and railway routes. This will create difficult driving conditions and increase travel time. Delhi Airport issued an advisory saying, 'Flight departures have been affected due to dense fog. However, flights that are CAT III compliant (capable of low visibility operations) are able to land and depart at Delhi airport.'

111 flights were delayed

According to the Flightradar24 website, more than 111 flights were delayed in takeoff due to dense fog at IGI airport, while three were cancelled. At the same time, out of the flights arriving at the airport, 36 were delayed and one was cancelled. The average delay in takeoff was 50 minutes. While the incoming flights were delayed by only 5 minutes.

At the same time, visibility was recorded to be 100 meters at Kanpur Airport, 100 meters at Lucknow Airport, 150 meters at Varanasi Airport, 150 meters at Guwahati Airport, 200 meters at Safdarjung Airport and 200 meters at Prayagraj Airport.
