New Delhi. The conflict between BJP and Congress is continuously increasing on the issue of George Soros. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has now hit back at Congress leader Shashi Tharoor's statement, in which Tharoor had said that he met Soros at Puri's house in America.

Actually, a 15-year-old tweet of Shashi Tharoor is viral. In this, he has mentioned his meeting with George Soros. Regarding this, Tharoor had clarified that this meeting was arranged by the then ambassador Hardeep Singh Puri over dinner.

Hardeep Puri hit back

Now Hardeep Singh Puri has reacted to Tharoor's statement. Puri said that the Congress MP did not tell the whole matter. He said that Tharoor himself had given him the list of guests attending the dinner.

Puri also said that the person in question (George Soros) was one of the donors to the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and the Minister of State was keen to meet him. In fact, Shashi Tharoor was the Minister of State for External Affairs at that time.

Hardeep Singh Puri said that ‘To lie, one has to use language as an art. Some of my Congress friends are experts in this. But they should tweet at their own risk.’

2009 post goes viral

This whole matter started on December 15. An ex-user shared a 2009 post of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, in which Tharoor had written, ‘Met my old friend Shashi Tharoor. Discussed about India and neighbors. He is more than an investor. He is a serious citizen of the world.’

Talk of meeting at Puri's house

During this time, Tharoor also said that I had gone to New York as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and this meeting took place at Hardeep Singh Puri's house. According to Tharoor, ‘The then Ambassador Puri had invited some famous American citizens to discuss with me over dinner (and there was nothing wrong in this). I have not been in touch with Soros since then. My old relationships have no political meaning.’

In his lengthy post, Tharoor further wrote, 'My meeting with Soros took place in a social context. I have not taken a single penny from Soros or any of his organisations for myself or any organisation.'
