In his initial phase of service, he worked in the solid propulsion area of ​​sounding rockets and Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle (ASLV) and Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC). Narayan was earlier the Director of Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC). Narayan has been working as a scientist in the field of rocket and spacecraft propulsion for the last 4 decades.

He made significant contributions to the process planning, control and implementation of ablative nozzle systems, composite motor cases and composite igniter cases. In addition, Narayan has worked on major rocket launches of ISRO such as the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).

How much education does V. Narayan have?

V. Narayan has obtained his M.Tech degree in Cryogenic Engineering from IIT Kharagpur with first rank. He also did his PhD in Aerospace Engineering in the year 2001. V. Narayan received a silver medal from IIT Kharagpur for securing first rank in M.Tech. He was also awarded a gold medal by the Aeronautical Society of India.

He has received the ASI Award for Rocket and Related Technology, Team Award, Excellence Award and Performance Excellence Award from High Energy Materials Society of India and Team Excellence Award from ISRO. Apart from this, he has also been awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) from Sathyabama University, Chennai.

He has been awarded the Distinguished Alimony Student Award-2018 by IIT Kharagpur, National Design Award-2019 by National Design and Research Forum of the Institution of Engineers (India) and National Aeronautical Prize-2019 by the Aeronautical Society of India (AESI).
