Air India chief Campbell Wilson said on Friday that by 2025, the company will see progress on various major initiatives, including the repair of wide and narrowbody aircraft. Wilson said that the airline will also strengthen its working methods and processes, which will eventually make it profitable. After taking control of the loss-making Air India from the government in January 2022, the Tata Group has been working on an ambitious transformation plan to bring the airline back on track. Air India has also recently placed orders for 100 more aircraft.

Important achievements achieved in 2024

In his message to employees on Friday, Wilson said, "Some of the most important achievements will be achieved in 2024, including the merger of Air India Express and AirAsia India and Vistara with Air India, which will make us the fourth largest business in the Tata Group by revenue." The Air India Group operates 300 aircraft of both brands, ensuring travel of more than 60 million people every year to more than 100 places and destinations in India and around the world.

A transformational year for the Indian aviation industry

Describing 2024 as a transformational year for Air India and Indian aviation in many ways, Wilson said 2025 will see progress on many more of the airline's key initiatives, such as redesigning widebody and narrowbody aircraft with new seats and services. Air India CEO and Managing Director Wilson also emphasized that the airline will strengthen its operations and processes so that "we are not only consistent, but ultimately profitable."

Order placed for 570 aircraft

Air India's loss in the financial year 2023-24 has reduced to Rs 4,444.10 crore from Rs 11,387.96 crore in 2022-23.
