Sundargarh: A major accident has taken place in a cement factory in Rajgangpur in Sundargarh district of Odisha. Many workers are feared dead due to the collapse of the factory's coal hopper. According to sources, 4 bodies have been taken out so far. However, there is no official confirmation. There are 6 ambulances and 6 fire department vehicles at the spot. Three cranes have also reached the spot.
More than 12 workers are buried under coal
This accident happened when more than 12 workers were working under the coal hopper. The workers got buried when the coal hopper fell. Some women are also among the trapped people. It is being told that suddenly the coal hopper fell and all the workers working got buried under the coal. As soon as the information was received, the rescue team reached the spot with JCB and other equipment and started the rescue operation to remove the trapped workers. Police has also reached the spot and is helping in the rescue work.
Rescue work in full swing
According to the Rajgangpur police station in-charge, it will take about 2 more hours to complete the rescue operation. Rescue work is going on rapidly by deploying machines and every effort is being made to evacuate the workers safely.
Many workers gathered at the main gate of the factory
Upon hearing the news of the accident, hundreds of workers gathered at the main gate of the factory and blamed the factory management for the accident. The workers allege that they had already appealed to the authorities to check the condition of the coal hopper, but their complaints were ignored.
Earlier on September 28 last year, at least five people, including an official and four workers, were injured in an explosion inside the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). The incident took place at SMS-1 of the plant. The workers were reportedly scorched by the falling of molten iron.
