New Delhi: Given the increasing number of monkeypox cases worldwide, AIIMS Delhi has issued an advisory. AIIMS Delhi on Tuesday issued guidelines for the treatment of suspected monkeypox patients. Along with this, five beds have also been allocated for treatment in quarantine.

Keep suspected patients in quarantine.

The standard operating procedure (SOP) states that suspected patients should be immediately placed in a quarantine area to minimise their contact with other patients and staff. The World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the approximate outbreak a public health emergency of international concern, stressing the need to raise awareness about the disease, early detection and stringent infection control measures to prevent further spread, the central government-run institute said in a statement.

Ampox is a viral zoonotic disease.

According to the AIIMS SOP document, ampox is a viral zoonotic disease with symptoms similar to those seen earlier in smallpox patients. However, it is clinically less severe. The document outlines the steps required to deal with such cases in the emergency department of AIIMS.

What are the symptoms?

According to the protocol, patients with fever, rash or history of contact with confirmed cases of ampox should be marked for immediate assessment on arrival. It also calls for identifying key symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain, back pain, swollen lymph nodes, chills, fatigue and skin lesions. The document said five beds have been earmarked in the AB-7 ward to isolate ampox cases.

Serum Institute is making vaccines.

On the other hand, Pune's Serum Institute of India has also made a big statement regarding monkeypox. Serum Institute of India said on Tuesday that it is currently working on developing a vaccine for monkeypox. It further said that positive results are expected within a year in making this vaccine.
