A second chance for failed students
Education Minister Sangma said that the Meghalaya School Education Board will conduct class 10 examinations twice every year from 2025. He said that for this, the state cabinet approved the proposal to amend the Meghalaya School Education Board regulation on Friday. This move to conduct examinations twice a year is to provide a second chance to the students who do not pass the board examination. Sangma said that the first examination related to this will be held in February or early March and the second examination will be held in May, in which students who fail in all or some subjects will get a chance.
It is compulsory to pass in all subjects
The Education Minister said that the move is in line with the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) and is designed to assist students by reducing the time wasted between attempts. The Cabinet also approved the decision to eliminate optional papers or 'Best of Five Papers' from the 2026-2027 academic year. This means that from 2026-2027 all students will have to pass all six subjects in the board examination. The Cabinet also approved the Meghalaya Public School Service Rules, Meghalaya Subordinate Water Resources Engineering Service Rules, 2024 and Farmers Empowerment Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2024
