Education News : The Supreme Court dismissed the petition of some candidates on Monday, challenging the government's decision to cancel the UGC-NET (National Eligibility Test) examination. The court dismissed the petition, saying that hearing it at this time would create "chaos". The petition was placed before a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra.

'This will create chaos on a large scale.'

The three-member bench said on the matter that the government is conducting a fresh exam on August 21 and the students should have a sense of "comfort" at this time. The number of students appearing for the exam is around 9 lakh. The Chief Justice refused to consider the petition filed by Praveen Dabas and others and said, "This move of the Supreme Court will have a serious impact and will create chaos on a large scale." The bench mentioned that the UGC NET exam was held on June 18, and a day later, it was cancelled.

'We must be doubly alert'

The Chief Justice said, "To consider the petition at the present stage will only increase uncertainty and lead to utter chaos. The Central government should have been doubly alert after the NEET-UG controversy and that is why it was dismissed. Now let the process continue."

A petition was dismissed earlier too.

Earlier too, the Supreme Court had dismissed a PIL on the issue, saying that it was filed by a lawyer and not by the aggrieved students. The Chief Justice had told the lawyer on the matter, "Why have you (lawyer) come? Let the students come here themselves. We will not say anything on its merits while rejecting this PIL." The bench had asked advocate Ujjwal Gaur, who had filed the petition, to focus on legal matters and leave such issues to the aggrieved persons.
