Schools remained closed for the third consecutive day on Thursday due to rain in Aizawl and Kolasib districts.

Landslides occurred in many places

Schools in Aizawl and Kolasib districts were closed since Tuesday due to torrential rains in the northeastern state that triggered landslides at several places. The district administration said in a public notice that all schools will remain closed for the safety and well-being of students. The Aizawl district administration said in the notice that due to the flooding caused by heavy rains for the last several hours, siltation, landslides and falling of rocks have occurred on various important roads and places in the district. The notice said that the competent authority considered it appropriate to keep the schools closed for the safety and well-being of school-going students.

It rained today too

The notice said that this decision has been taken after thorough deliberations on the information received from various places, data from IMD and other sources. The state capital Aizawl received moderate rain on Thursday. Officials said that there is no report of any casualty so far in incidents related to heavy rains and floods in the state.
