National:  The strength of the Indian Navy at sea is going to increase further. The second nuclear submarine INS Arighat is going to join the Navy fleet today (29 August). This submarine will provide security in the Indian Ocean region. This submarine will be equipped with a deadly missile like K-4. This missile has the capability to strike up to a distance of 3 thousand kilometers.

At the same time, Arighat will also be equipped with K-15 missiles like Arihant. India needs more nuclear submarines to deal with the growing dominance of China in the Indian Ocean.

India's first nuclear submarine was INS Arihant , which joined the Indian Navy fleet in 2014. INS Arighat is more updated and dangerous than INS Arihant. The Indian Navy is preparing two more nuclear submarines, which will be ready by 2035-36.

What is special about INS Arighat?

•  INS Arighat has been built under the Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV) project at the Visakhapatnam Shipbuilding Centre.
•  This submarine, which runs on nuclear reactor, can move faster than a normal submarine. Not only this, it can also match the speed of surface ships.
• While ordinary submarines can stay underwater for only a few hours, this submarine can stay underwater for months.
•  INS Arighat can move at a speed of 12-15 knots i.e. more than 22 to 28 kilometres per hour on the surface of water.
•  It can move at a speed of 24 nautical miles i.e. 44 kilometres per hour in the depths of the sea.
•  The submarine will have eight launch tubes.
• INS Arighat is 111.6 metres in length, 11 metres in width and 9.5 metres in height.
• The weight of the submarine is 6 thousand tonnes.
• Capable of carrying out underwater missile attacks, INS Arighat is equipped with sonar communication systems, sea-based missiles and anti-radiation protection systems.
