National: Haryana Assembly Election 2024: After BJP, now Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) has demanded to extend the date of Haryana Assembly elections. Abhay Singh Chautala has written a letter to the Election Commission. Let us tell you that the Election Commission has fixed the date of voting for the assembly elections in Haryana on October 1. The results are to be declared on October 4.

Abhay Singh Chautala wrote a letter

In a letter to the Election Commission, Abhay Singh Chautala said, "The election process in the state of Haryana will start from September 5, 2024 and voting will be held on October 1, 2024 and counting of votes will be done on October 4, 2024. I would like to bring to your notice that the polling day is before the 2nd. Gazetted holidays i.e. 28 September is Saturday and 29 September, 2024 is Sunday. There is also a polling holiday on October 1 and after that there will be two holidays i.e. Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 and Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti on October 3, 2024."

He further wrote, "Generally people go on holidays on long weekends, so it will definitely affect the voting percentage and there is a possibility of 15 to 20% decrease in voting percentage... You are requested to please extend the polling date/day by a week or more."

BJP had written a letter

Let us tell you that earlier the Haryana unit of BJP has requested to postpone the assembly elections to be held on October 1 for some time. Citing holidays before and after the election date, the party has said that this may reduce the voting percentage. Haryana Chief Election Officer Pankaj Aggarwal confirmed that the Commission has received a copy of the letter through e-mail on Friday. He said, "We have received the letter from the state BJP and we have sent it to the Election Commission."
