Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is going to organize the Women's Bangladesh Premier League (WBPL) for the first time, which is likely to start from February 7, soon after the end of the Men's BPL. According to BCB director Nazmul Abedin Fahim, it will be a three-team competition, in which each team will play six league matches and will face each team twice. After this there will be a final match. Fahim told that BCB is considering various measures for the development of women's cricket. He said that we were thinking about many ways to promote women's cricket, and considered whether we could organize a T20 competition for women. Now we have decided that we will organize the Women's BPL.
So many players will be included in the teams
Apart from this, Faheem also informed that BCB is in talks with some men's BPL franchises regarding women's teams, and some owners have shown interest in it. Faheem said that we have already spoken to some BPL franchises who have shown interest in owning women's teams. We want to see what impact the women's tournament has on our T20 cricket. We hope that this will help in the progress of women's cricket.
Another special thing about this tournament is that only one foreign player will be included in each team, and each team will have a maximum of 15 players. Faheem said that due to financial reasons they do not want to include many foreign players. He said that four foreign players put financial pressure on the teams, and we do not want them to face that pressure. We want to give more opportunities to our domestic cricketers and increase competitiveness.
Bangladesh's first women's T20 tournament
This will be the first women's T20 tournament to be held in Bangladesh. Currently, Bangladeshi women cricketers play a one-day league in Dhaka, and recently the BCB has introduced a three-day competition for women. With this new initiative, the BCB is hoping to give a new direction to women's cricket.
