New Delhi:  Ever since the ouster of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, there has been a lot of tension between India and Bangladesh. But in the meantime, Bangladesh has signed a major bilateral agreement with India. This decision of Bangladesh will benefit both the parties. Amidst tension in bilateral relations, both the countries announced on Thursday that they will start the process of sending the fishermen in each other's custody back to their country.

Let us tell you that this happened shortly after Bangladesh said that it will hand over 95 Indian fishermen to Indian authorities on January 5. On this, India said that it will release 90 Bangladeshi fishermen in return on the same day. The Ministry of External Affairs said that this decision to release the fishermen and their boats has been taken keeping in mind the humanitarian and livelihood concerns of the fishermen communities of both sides. This will benefit both the countries. (Language)

Tension prevails in India-Bangladesh relations

The period of tension between India and Bangladesh started when Bangladeshi students ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through violent protests. The situation became such that she had to leave her country and flee to India. She has been living in India since 5 August 2024. Since then, relations between India and Bangladesh have deteriorated. Now Mohammad Yunus is handling the reins of the interim government of Bangladesh. As soon as Yunus came to power, atrocities and oppression are being committed against Hindus in Bangladesh. But the interim government is deliberately unaware of the violence against Hindus. Not only this, it has sent Hindu leader Chinmay Krishna Das to jail by accusing him of treason. Since then, violence against Hindus has increased further.
