Sports News : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Bengaluru on Sunday, during which some important decisions were made. Since the appointment of a new secretary was not included in the agenda of this meeting, the next secretary in place of Jay Shah was not announced at the moment. However, the members present in this meeting requested Jay Shah to expedite the process of finding the next secretary in his place.
Jay Shah was elected unopposed as the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman a few days ago. Shah will take over the post from December 1 and his tenure as ICC President will be for a period of three years. It is believed that Shah will leave the post of BCCI Secretary in the last week of November. During the AGM, the members discussed among themselves how to keep the process of selecting the next secretary transparent.
"It was a general request to put all due processes in place as soon as possible as that will give us clarity. Also, we have some big events coming up like the IPL auction. In this situation, it should not be the case that all things have to be handled simultaneously," a state association representative who attended the AGM was quoted as saying by the news agency PTI.
Rohan Jaitley, Shelar in the race
Currently, Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitley, BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar, joint secretary Devjit Saikia and Gujarat Cricket Association secretary Anil Patel are the candidates in the race to become Shah's successor. If no dark horse emerges in the next stage of the selection process, then one of these names will become Shah's successor.
Dhumal-Dalmiya become general body representatives in GC
Arun Singh Dhumal and Avishek Dalmiya were elected as general body representatives to the IPL Governing Committee (GC). Dhumal was set to continue as the league chairman at least until IPL 2025. Former Andhra cricketer V Chamundeshwarnath was nominated as the players' representative by the Indian Players Association (ICA) and was included in the IPL GC.
With no secretary election on the agenda, the main agenda of the AGM was to name two representatives of India at ICC meetings. Currently, Shah is the BCCI representative on the ICC Board and IPL chairman Arun Dhumal is on the Chief Executive Committee. The AGM has tasked the general body members to recommend two names (director and alternate director) for the posts soon as the ICC has also scheduled a conference in Dubai right after the final of the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup.
