There will be no war between Israel and Hamas for the next six weeks. Israel and Hamas have agreed on a ceasefire. According to the AP report, an Israeli official says that there was a last minute hitch in the Gaza ceasefire talks with Hamas, which halted the agreement. The Hamas official had said that the group has rejected Israel's proposal for a Gaza ceasefire and the talks are ongoing. Then Qatar and Hamas officials said that the last minute dispute in the ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas has been resolved. After that, Israeli and Hamas officials said that a ceasefire has been agreed to stop Israel's war in Gaza and release dozens of hostages.

Qatar mediated, only then the matter was resolved

Qatar's prime minister, who is mediating the talks, met separately with Hamas and Israeli delegations, and shortly after, the dispute was resolved, the Qatari official told the AP. The ceasefire agreement marks the end of the 15-month-long conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The US, Egypt and Qatar brokered a deal last year to end the war sparked by Hamas' attack on Israel in October 2023. During months of talks, both sides had previously said they were close to a ceasefire only for last-minute hurdles to be cleared.

The war on Gaza broke out after Hamas carried out its deadliest attack on Israel to date on October 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of 1,210 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally. Hamas also took 251 Israelis hostage during the attack, 94 of whom are still being held in Gaza, 34 of whom have been declared dead by the Israeli military.
