Justin Trudeau Response To Donald Trump: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has reacted to the statement of America's newly elected President Donald Trump in which he said that Canada can become the 51st state of America. Trudeau has described Trump's statements as a diversionary tactic. Trudeau said in an interview to CNN, "This is not going to happen. Canadians are very proud to be Canadian. The easiest way to define us is that we are not Americans."

'American people will have to bear the brunt'

In recent times, America's newly elected President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to impose heavy tariffs on Canada while openly offering it to become the 51st state. In such a situation, Trudeau has now said that if such tariffs are implemented, the American people will have to bear the brunt of increased prices. Trudeau said, "Whatever American customers buy from Canada, including oil, gas, electricity, steel, aluminum, wood, concrete, will suddenly become very expensive if they go ahead with these tariffs."

Trudeau mentioned the 2018 trade dispute

Justin Trudeau also referred to Canada's use of counter tariffs during the 2018 trade dispute against U.S. goods such as Heinz ketchup, playing cards, bourbon and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. "We don't want to do that because it raises prices for Canadians and hurts our closest trading partner," Trudeau said.
