Magdeburg  A car rammed into a busy Christmas market in the eastern German city of Magdeburg on Friday, killing two people and injuring at least 68 others.Officials are suspecting that this could be a deliberate attack. The motive behind the attack is not yet clear. The police have arrested the car driver. A large number of people had come to the German market to do Christmas shopping. This horrific attack took place during that time.

 

 

The attacker is originally from Saudi Arabia

Saxony-Anhalt's interior minister Tamara Zischang told the media that the suspect is a 50-year-old Saudi doctor who first came to Germany in 2006. As things stand, he is a lone offender, so as far as we know, there is no further threat to the city. Fifteen of the injured were very seriously hurt, AP reports.

 

 

Two people were confirmed dead

Governor Rainer Haseloff said that the two deaths confirmed include an adult and a child. However, the condition of some people is critical, so further deaths cannot be ruled out. According to a DPA report, Magdeburg University Hospital also said that 10 to 20 patients are being treated in the hospital.

 

 

Saudi Arabia issued a statement

At the same time, Saudi Arabia has also issued a statement regarding the incident. Saudi Arabia has said that it stands with Germany regarding the incident. It also said that any kind of violence will not be tolerated. The incident took place at around 7 pm when the market was full of holiday shoppers. 

The video is going viral on social media

A video shared on social media of the incident at the market shows a car speeding through a crowd walking between two rows of market stalls. People can be seen falling to the ground and running away. 

A similar incident happened in Berlin

The incident is similar to the attack in Berlin in 2016, when a driver rammed a truck into a crowd, killing 13 people.
