New Delhi: The war between Russia and Ukraine continues. Meanwhile, the Indian Foreign Ministry said on Friday that Russia has informed India that 16 Indians serving in the Russian army are missing. The ministry said that Indian citizens serving in the Russian army have been requested to be sent back. It said that 12 Indians serving in the Russian army have died so far.
96 people returned to India
Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said, "There are 126 cases (of Indian citizens working in the Russian army). Out of these 126, 96 people have returned to India and have been released from the Russian Armed Forces. He said, "There are still 18 Indian citizens in the Russian army, out of which the whereabouts of 16 are not known." Jaiswal said, "Russia has put them in the category of missing. We demand that those who are still in the army be released and sent back."
Indian had died
Let us tell you that recently an Indian citizen from Kerala died in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. 32-year-old Binil Babu, a resident of Thrissur, Kerala, was recruited in the Russian army and was fighting against Ukraine. The Indian Foreign Ministry had raised this matter before the Russian government. The ministry had said that India has reiterated its demand to send other people of the country included in the Russian army to India soon.
Assurance received from President Putin
In August last year, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar had said on this issue that an assurance has been received from Russian President Vladimir Putin that all Indian citizens serving in the Russian army will be removed from service. India's stand on this entire matter is already clear and this issue has been raised with Russia.
