Melbourne Cricket Club, one of Australia's oldest sports clubs, was founded in 1838. It is responsible for the management and development of Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), one of the sport's premier venues. MCC posted on 'X' and wrote with it that an 'icon' was honoured. MCC is pleased to announce that former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar has accepted Honorary Cricket Membership in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the sport.

Sachin Tendulkar is the Indian batsman who has scored the most Test runs at the MCG. He has 449 runs in five Test matches at this ground at an average of 44.90 and a strike rate of 58.69. He has scored one century and three half-centuries at this ground. Earlier in 2012, Tendulkar was awarded the 'Order of Australia', one of the country's highest honors.
