SEOUL: Impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol was questioned by investigative agencies for nearly 10 hours on Wednesday. He was taken to a detention center near the country's capital Seoul. Earlier, he was questioned by law enforcement officials in connection with the imposition of martial law last month.
Yoon was questioned for nearly 10 hours by the country's anti-corruption agency after he was detained at his presidential residence. "The rule of law in this country has completely collapsed," Yoon said in a video message recorded before being taken to the anti-corruption agency's headquarters.
Had to face impeachment for imposing martial law
He was holed up in his Hannam-dong residence in the capital Seoul for several weeks and vowed to "fight to the end" against efforts to remove him from power. The president had declared martial law on December 3 last year. The president's move shocked the entire nation. Although martial law ended within a few hours, a feeling of discontent against the president spread in the country and opposition parties began demanding impeachment proceedings against him. (
