Last year, many legendary cricketers said goodbye to international cricket. England's legendary bowler James Anderson was also among them. Anderson, the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, announced his retirement after playing his last Test match against West Indies in July 2024. However, Anderson could not keep himself away from cricket for long and became England's bowling mentor soon after retirement. After this, the legendary bowler hinted at a comeback in T20 cricket and also got his name included in the IPL auction, but no team showed any interest in buying him. Despite this, Anderson has not given up hope and is now looking forward to returning to county cricket.

Veterans ready to return

Meanwhile, news has emerged that James Anderson is set to return to professional cricket in Division 2 of the County Championship next season. It has been learned that he is in talks with Lancashire to return to all formats. According to The Telegraph, James Anderson is set to commit to at least one final season with Lancashire. This is the same club that first signed him as a teenager almost 25 years ago and then made his first-class cricket debut in 2002.

Lancashire were relegated from the top division of the County Championship last season. However, Anderson surprised many by showing the enduring potential of his fitness and skill in first-class cricket by taking 7 for 35 in his only appearance against Nottinghamshire at Southport in June.

Lancashire will make its debut in April

Anderson is expected to be available from the start of the 2025 season, including a return to Lord's for Lancashire to face Middlesex from April 4 to 7. He could play in five matches before the start of England's Test summer. It is worth noting that Lancashire's first home match will be against Northamptonshire at Old Trafford in the second round of the Championship, which starts on April 11.
