During this period, the plane was also visited by five countries. The hijackers went to Lahore airport to refuel. The hijackers killed passenger Rupin Katyal and headed towards Lahore again. Here the plane was refueled. From here the plane flew to Kabul, after which the plane was diverted to Dubai. From here the plane flew to Afghanistan. The terrorists demanded the release of 35 terrorists, after which the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government agreed to release jailed terrorists Maulana Masood Azhar, Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar and Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh. On December 31, the passengers were released and brought back by a special plane.
