China Threat To Taiwan: The tension between China and Taiwan is well known. Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping has threatened Taiwan on the last day of the year 2024. Jinping said that "no one can stop" Taiwan's reunification with China and he will continue his efforts. Addressing the nation on New Year's Eve, President Xi said that Beijing has been saying for a long time that the whole of Taiwan is a part of China.

'We Chinese are from the same family'

"We Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are all of one family. No one can ever sever the kinship bonds between us," President Xi said in his address broadcast on state TV. "In a world of both change and turmoil, China, as a responsible major country, is actively promoting global governance reform and deepening solidarity and cooperation among the 'Global South'," he said.

What else did Xi Jinping say?

President Xi Jinping's address was aimed at reassuring the Chinese public about the economy, which has slowed down significantly following Covid-19. The real estate sector in China has collapsed and people have lost jobs due to the closure of businesses across the country. Xi said that China's economy has improved and is on the path of progress. He said that the gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to cross the 130 trillion-yuan (about 18.08 trillion US dollars) mark in 2024. He said that grain production has exceeded 700 million tonnes. However, China is struggling to increase its exports of e-vehicles, as the US and the European Union have imposed heavy duties on imports from it.
