Sports News : The Trinbago Knight Riders team has suffered a major setback in the Women's Caribbean Premier League 2024. Star player Meg Lanning is injured and has been ruled out of this season. Lanning was in action in the Hundred earlier this month, where her team London Spirit won the title. But she did not appear in rhythm. Now Sri Lankan star batsman Harshita Samarawickrama has entered the Trinbago Knight Riders team in her place. Samarawickrama has performed well for some time now. 

The team's first female player to play in a foreign league

Harshita Samarawickrama is the second Sri Lankan female player to be part of a foreign league. Before her, Chamari Atapattu has played in a foreign league. Samarawickrama will join Shikha Pandey, Jemima Rodrigues and Jess Jonassen as other foreign players for the Knight Riders.

Played an important role in getting Asia Cup for Sri Lanka

Harshita Samarawickrama is in great form. She single-handedly led the Sri Lankan women's team to the Asia Cup 2024 title. Then in the final, she scored an unbeaten 69 off 51 balls and snatched victory from the jaws of the Indian women's team. She also received the Player of the Match award in the final. Apart from this, she scored half-centuries in the series against Ireland. She has so far scored 1463 runs in 65 T20Is at a strike rate of 99.72. Now she has got another chance to show her ability.

The Women's Caribbean Premier League 2024 is starting from 22 August, which will run till 30 August. The final match will be played on 30 August. The Trinbago Knight Riders team will play its first match against Barbados Royals at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. Many star cricketers are also expected to join the Caribbean Premier League this year.
