Vinesh Phogat: The moment that all the countrymen were waiting for after the end of Paris Olympics 2024 was to come today, but now the wait has increased further. Indian female wrestler athlete Vinesh Phogat was disqualified just before the 50 kg freestyle gold medal match at the Paris Olympics 2024 due to being 100 grams overweight. After this decision, while the Indian Olympic Association lodged a strong objection, Vinesh was also very disappointed. Vinesh Phogat had appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) regarding this decision that she should be given at least a silver medal, on which the CAS decision was to come today. But now the news is coming that CAS has postponed the decision on the medal till August 16. Now the decision on Vinesh Phogat's case will come on August 16 at 9:30 pm Indian time.

Vinesh Phogat had announced her retirement

Vinesh Phogat created history by reaching the gold medal match in Paris Olympics 2024. She became the first Indian female wrestler to reach the final of wrestling. When her weight was measured on the day of the final, it was found to be 50 kg 100 grams, after which she was declared disqualified. Let us tell you, Vinesh had tried all the ways to reduce her weight a night before the final. She did jogging, cycling and even cut her hair and nails, but still her weight turned out to be 100 grams more.

Vinesh Phogat was so disappointed after being disqualified that she announced to quit wrestling on the morning of 8 August. Vinesh is one of the most successful wrestlers of India. She has won medals in wrestling from Commonwealth to Asian Games. For this excellent performance, the Government of India awarded her the Arjuna Award in the year 2016 and the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award in the year 2020. This time in the Paris Olympics, she had a golden opportunity to win an Olympic medal, but her 100 gram weight dashed not only her hopes but also the hopes of Indians.
