Dhaka/New Delhi: Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has demanded "justice", saying that those involved in the recent "terrorist acts", killings and sabotage should be investigated, identified and punished. In her first public statement after stepping down from the post of Prime Minister on August 5, Hasina (76) said that many people have died in the violence that has been going on in Bangladesh since July in the name of movement. 

Son posted mother's statement 

The former prime minister's son Sajib Wazed, who lives in the US, posted his mother's statement in Bangla on his handle on the social media platform 'X'. In the statement, Hasina said, "I express grief over the death of students, teachers, police personnel, pregnant women, journalists, cultural workers, working people, leaders and activists of the Awami League and its allied organisations, common people and employees of many establishments."

Hasina said, "I sympathize with those like me who are living with the pain of losing their loved ones. I demand a proper investigation to identify those involved in these killings and terrorist acts and give them appropriate punishment." In her statement, Hasina expressed grief over the burning of the Bangabandhu Museum during the violence, saying that "the memory and inspiration we had has been burnt to ashes." She said, "This is a grave insult to someone under whose leadership we became an independent nation. I demand justice from the countrymen for this act."
